Lead the future of building services design in County Durham!
Our Construction Consultancy Services (CCS) team provides client-side consultancy across a wide range of professional disciplines, delivering capital build projects of all sizes and complexity. With an expanding mechanical and electrical (M&E) design requirement, we are seeking a highly skilled Principal Building Services Design Engineer to manage and drive technical excellence within our M&E design section.
What’s Involved?
In this key leadership role, you will:
Lead and manage the M&E design section, providing technical guidance, design review, and quality assurance.
Oversee the full design lifecycle on selected projects, from concept through detailed design, construction, and handover, in line with RIBA stages.
Act as project lead and principal designer, including preparing tender documents, evaluating tenders, and managing contracts.
Appoint and manage consultants (internal and external).
Mentor and develop staff, fostering innovation and continuous improvement.
Deliver project solutions to meet time, cost, quality, scope, and risk performance criteria.
With a secured and expanding capitalised maintenance and repair budget of £8M+ per annum, plus a wider capital programme, this role offers a challenging and varied workload.

What Will You Need?
Degree-level qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant subject.
Substantial professional experience in M&E design and project management.
Evidence of leadership in delivering M&E design advice and managing teams.
Grade 13: Working towards a relevant professional qualification (e.g., Chartered Building Services Engineer – MCIBSE).
Grade 14: Chartered Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., MCIBSE).
