♻️ A new Food Waste Collection service is launching in County Durham – and we need YOU! 🍏
To support this new service, Durham County Council is expanding their waste and recycling team and recruiting for multiple roles across the county – with current vacancies based in the south, where the first phase of the service will be delivered.
They are looking for:
Waste Recycling Operatives
HGV Driver Chargehands
Non‑HGV Driver Chargehands
You’ll be out across the county each day – assisting with the new food waste collections and making sure your routes are completed safely and efficiently.
Recruitment timeline
The council will be recruiting in three phases to support the rollout of food waste collections across different areas. Please review the timeline and apply only for the role(s) in the area(s) where you would like to work.
Phase 1 – for vacancies in the south of the county (Chilton Depot, Chilton)

The council’s Resourcing team will be holding application support drop‑in sessions in each of the recruitment phases. The Resourcing team will be available on-site to answer any questions you may have about the role and the application process. There is no requirement to book an appointment, simply drop in between 1.00pm and 4.00pm on your chosen date.
