Secure Network Engineer – London
Ideal for Military Communications Background (High level of security clearance)
This Secure Network Engineer opportunity is particularly well suited to individuals with a military background in communications, such as those from the Royal Signals, Royal Navy Communications Branch, or similar operational units.
The role mirrors many of the core responsibilities experienced in military communications environments, including working within secure, mission-critical networks, operating on a 24/7 shift pattern, and maintaining high levels of operational readiness and resilience. Candidates with experience in defence communications centres, tactical networks, or secure infrastructure support will find their skills highly transferable.
Key aspects of the role that align with military experience include:
Operating within secure and highly controlled environments, including handling cryptographic materials and adhering to strict security protocols
Supporting and maintaining WAN/LAN networks, similar to deploying and managing military communication systems
Incident ownership and resolution, reflecting the accountability required in operational and time-sensitive environments
Working both independently and as part of a disciplined team, often under pressure and with minimal supervision
Exposure to serial communications, legacy systems, and bespoke technologies, commonly found in defence settings
Participation in shift patterns and on-call duties, aligning with operational military roles
Strong focus on network monitoring, fault diagnosis, and service restoration, critical in both military and secure civilian infrastructure
Candidates transitioning from the military will also benefit from:
A structured environment with clear processes and escalation pathways
The opportunity to apply their security clearance eligibility
Continued exposure to complex, secure communications systems, with additional in-house training on bespoke technologies
Overall, this role provides an excellent pathway for those leaving the Armed Forces to leverage their technical communications expertise in a civilian environment, while continuing to work on secure, high-impact network systems.
