Energy from Waste

Our Vision is to be the UK’s leading innovator of resource recovery and recycling, transforming waste for a climate-positive future.

Are you someone who lives and breathes high performance, leads with ambition, and would like to be part of an organisation that looks after tomorrow?  Viridor has a redefined purpose, a bold Vision, and an ambitious, market-leading strategy. We are investing in the future, and we need a talented team with exceptional people, who believe in each other, to help us achieve this.

Join us, as we rise to the challenge and build a world where nothing goes to waste.

Viridor is at the forefront of waste management and resource recovery in the UK, operating the largest network of Energy Recovery Facilities (ERFs). We play a crucial role in supporting the UK’s climate goals by diverting waste from landfills and transforming it into valuable energy resources.

The Tees Valley Energy Recovery Facility being developed by Viridor will be an innovative energy-from-waste plant located in Grangetown, Redcar, within the South Tees Development Corporation area.

This project represents a significant step towards sustainable waste management and energy production in the region.

We are recruiting a Social Value Officer to play a key role in connecting the Tees Valley ERF with local communities, ensuring the project delivers meaningful social and economic benefits. Join our team working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

The salary for this role will be circa £37,000 per year and participation in an annual bonus scheme, in addition to our great range of benefits.

The closing date for applications is 31st March 2026. We encourage all applicants to apply as soon as possible as we may close vacancies early if we receive a high number of applications.

As a Social Value Officer, you will embed the ERF into the local community and ensure Viridor’s social impact commitments are delivered. You’ll act as the main point of contact for stakeholders, local businesses, schools, and community organisations.

You will lead on community engagement, organise events, facilitate educational programmes, and oversee site visits, always ensuring Health & Safety compliance.

This role is for someone who;

  • Is a strong communicator with excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Is a relationship-builder; credible, influential, and comfortable engaging at all levels.
  • Has experience delivering projects or events with clear outcomes, including report writing and stakeholder liaison.
  • Is proactive, confident in public-facing settings, and happy to take ownership of this role as the site expert.
  • Is organised, resilient, and able to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a positive approach.
